The Society, which is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society, dates back to 1945.
Ilmington’s Horticultural Society does not have members but organises visits and events that are open to all. Its main activity is to run an Annual Show of fruit, flowers, vegetables, cookery and crafts which takes place each Bank Holiday Monday as part of Ilmington Show. The 2019 show will take place on Monday 26 August.
Anyone can enter whether they live in Ilmington or outside the village and there are special classes for children so all the family can join in. You don’t have to be an expert grower, cook or artist but this is a real competition with trophies to be won. Have a go and enjoy producing the best flowers, vegetables, jams, cakes, wines, photos and art and crafts.
This year there will be special opportunity for artists to demonstrate their skills: Painting on the Spot. A work to be created in public between 1pm and 3.30pm on the day of the show in a marked area of the showground. Any medium, any size, materials supplied by the artist. Win a voucher for Ilmington Community Shop.
