Ilmington Parish Council

Ilmington Parish CouncilIPC

The Ilmington Parish Council is required to have a minimum of six Councillors and a maximum of 10.  In the event of a vacancy occuring on the  Council, from a resignation for example, the vacancy (knowns as a casual vacancy) can be filled by the Council.  This is known as co-option.  However, a Parish Council can only co-opt after a specific time period, during which a minimum of 10 electors can request for an election. If that happens, then a formal procedure for an election must take place. If 10 electors do not request an election, the Council must co-opt a member.

The Council will post a notice asking anyone  who is interested in serving as a Councillor to write to the Parish Clerk, giving their reasons for wishing to serve, as well as detailing how their interests, skills, and experience would benefit the Council and Parish.    Applicants will then be interviewed by the Parish Council members at an agreed date and time.

To qualify, a person must be a British subject or citizen of the Irish Republic, over 18 years of age and an elector, must reside within the parish of Ilmington or within three miles of it, or occupy as owner or tenant any land or premises therein, or have their principal or only place of work there, and must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor .

More information about becoming a Councillor can be obtained from the Parish Clerk or from the Warwickshire Association of Local Councils (WALC) website:
